Entry Level IT Support Specialist

This position is responsible for technical support, performing general maintenance tasks, troubleshooting and repairing computer systems and peripheral equipment throughout the organization. This involves assisting internal users in finding solutions to their IT requests in a friendly and efficient manner.

Summary:  This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and day-to-day operation of the operating system of the servers, PCs, and other hardware and software, which includes mail services, web services, and databases.  Responsible for ensuring proper capacity, reliability, and security of the server equipment.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:  The following duties are not inclusive of all duties.  The applicant may need to perform other related duties as required.

  • Responds to user requests for service and determines nature and extent of support needed.
  • Installs, diagnoses, repairs, maintains, and upgrades a variety of systems, software, hardware and equipment while ensuring optimal performance and compatibility.
  • Confers with Network Administrator and vendors to resolve problems.
  • Provides backup support for Information Technology staff including, but not limited to, maintaining, auditing, and troubleshooting Servers & Backup devices.
  • Provides telephone and onsite technical support to users, or refers support problem to the appropriate staff member. Performs follow up to critical incidents and problems until resolved.
  • Provides user support and some training.
  • Works on special projects and performs other duties as required.
  • Maintains knowledge to keep abreast of evolving technology.
  • Complies with policy and procedures to ensure a safe, secure, and reliable environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must be able to install, configure, troubleshoot and maintain software applications, PC hardware, and peripheral equipment used within the District.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of laptop, desktop and printer hardware troubleshooting and repair.
  • Knowledge of file and disk management; utilities applications; PC hardware configurations, including storage devices, printers, graphics, communications, and related software.
  • Candidate must be proficient with Windows 10.
  • Candidates should be knowledgeable with Microsoft Office and able to provide user support.
  • Should have effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be customer service oriented in providing service to enterprise network users.
  Education and Training
  • Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist is preferred at time of hiring, or within six months of start of employment.
  • 1 - 2 years of experience of IT Support Experience
      Desirable Experience:
  • Virtualization experience.
  • Experience using remote desktop and other remote support tools.
Working Conditions:

The normal work week is 40 hours per week, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.  Occasional early morning, evening, and weekend work, could be required.

Some physical labor could be required, involving working outdoors, lifting up to 70 pounds, reaching, and climbing ladders.

Special Requirements:
  • A valid Washington State Driver's License is required at the time of appointment.
  • Must pass initial and periodic 7-year criminal background checks and credit checks.
Current or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire:
  • First Aid/CPR Card
